Bayer acquiring Monsanto for $66 billion

This report was first published Sept. 13, 2016:

Company officials could announce agreement on Bayer’s purchase of Monsanto by Wednesday, Sept. 14, after a renewed round of negotiations lifted Bayer’s offer to about $130 per Monsanto share.

Regulatory officials would still have to approve the transaction in the U.S. and European Union.  The Financial Times reported finalization of the deal Tuesday evening, September 13.

Updates:

Wednesday morning, Sept. 14, BBC News posted a web report that Bayer has confirmed a $66 billion cash takeover of Monsanto, valuing Monsanto shares at $128.

On Sept. 14, Bloomberg published a highly unusual analysis on the corporate background of Bayer and Monsanto.

While the merger was still incubating earlier, Vandana Shiva, a leading Indian advocate for biologically sound farming, published (Sept. 8) in The Asian Age a background history of these two firms which you probably won’t find in any American media. Here’s the link to her article, headlined  “The poisonous cartel of GMOs.”
